This was a journey into a Civil War event that I was unaware of, which made it very interesting. Normally, a love story would seem out of place, but it actually enhances the historical story and gives it added depth and urgency. The ending was heartbreaking, but this is an important story that needs to be experienced.

An insightful novel about a little-known Civil-War-era tragedy. This one will appeal to fans of Ruta Sepetys' Salt to the Sea.
