"Who's afraid of the Big Bad Fox? No one, it seems. The fox dreams of being the terror of the barnyard. But no one is intimidated by him, least of all the hens? When he picks a fight with one, he always ends up on the losing end. Even the wolf, the most fearsome beast of the forest, can't teach him how to be a proper predator. It looks like the fox will have to spend the rest of his life eating turnips. But then the wolf comes up with the perfect scheme. If the fox steals some eggs, he could hatch the chicks himself and raise them to be a plump, juicy chicken dinner. Unfortunately, this plan falls apart when three adorable chicks hatch and call the fox Mommy" -- cover flap.

A cute and fun junior graphic novel about a fox who wants to eat chickens, but instead becomes Mom to three chicks. I laughed out loud so many times while reading this one and I really enjoyed the artwork.

If Despicable Me took place in a barnyard and its surrounding environs, you'd get a story similar to this one. A hapless Fox and a cruel Wolf who can't snag a chicken for dinner have a seemingly brilliant idea: snag the chickens BEFORE they're chickens, i.e. while they're still eggs. Once the eggs hatch, Fox is ready to enjoy the fruits of his thievery, but Wolf suggests waiting until they're a bit older (and fatter) before eating them. As Fox spends his time raising the chicks, he soon finds that the thought of eating them becomes less and less attractive. Meanwhile, the farmhouse hens are on a mission: track down Fox, peck him to a pulp, and get the chicks back. How will he protect the chicks from Wolf's increasing impatience while avoiding the vigilante justice of the chick's real mother and her feathered fighters? A delightful tale possessing snarky humor and heart.

I've been an adult now a lot longer than I was a kid and I adored this graphic comic novel. I recently saw the film that it's been made into and even knowing the story I still loved it. It's just a charming little thing to enjoy and smile about. I'm so glad people still create art.

Maybe I should have given 5 stars; this is a giant comic book for adults and we don't have many occasions to rate this genre. So--give your brains a break, adult readers, and enjoy a very well scripted and drawn "graphic book." Lots of snide humor, sneaky jokes and just plain fun. It is obvious why this author had one Academy Awards nomination for Best Animated Feature Film in 2014 and why I think this book will probably be made into a film also.

A perfect combination of humor and heart, with enjoyable and evocative illustrations. Most enjoyable and widely appealing.

So Funny!! As much about parenting as getting along with others, being true to yourself, etc.
When Fox steals a hen's eggs to eat and the wolf tells him to sit on them for a while, you know what's going to happen. It is hilarious.
The main issue I have with this story is how the fox has to put up with being basically tortured and maimed in order to stay near the chicks.
