Great story that looks at all of the ways a child could handle a bad situation and all of the emotions they could go through. Also looks into how the way people want to help isn't always the help that you need. A very sweet book.

This is the sweetest book. A child is upset and has many visitors who try to help, but all they really need is someone to listen. I love how there are lots of ways shown to help someone through a difficult situation because there is no one size fits all solution. The text of the story isn't wordy but is just right to convey the message.

A beautiful reminder of what it takes to be a good friend. My son handed it to me at the library and said "This is a great book. Please read it, then we'll take it home and read it there too." I just sent my friend group a note to read the book and help me to know when they need me to be an elephant, or a bear, or a rabbit for them.

The heart-piercing front and back cover alone will make you want to open this book, to read to a little one or just to yourself.
The timeless, sensible message, about the importance of just being there for someone trying to get through a tough time, is rendered with heartwarming simplicity and grace. And oh gosh, that sweet little bunny just melts me.

I liked the characters in this book because they're perfect for the words they say to the boy. It made me feel happy and made me think about wanting to help others. Katelynn

I liked this book because all the animals tried to help, but the kangaroo just cleaned up. The bunny was the only one who helped. This book is about friendship. Jinessa

Taylor decides to build a castle, but the castle is destroyed by birds. Taylor wants to express emotions over it, but the other animals come and overlay their own reactions over Taylor's. Each one's emotion does not match Taylor's own grieving process for the hard work, so the animals feel slighted over it and leave Taylor. However, the rabbit comes, comforts Taylor, and lets Taylor work through the stages of grief. Definitely a beneficial book about emotional responses, emotional displacement, and a healthy process of going through each stage to the point where Taylor feels ready to try again. Definitely would recommend to others, will be recommending to people in my own life as a resource.

This story respects the child and their feelings. What do you do when your block tower is knocked over and you feel sad and mad? Lots of animals have suggestions, but the rabbit – the rabbit just listens.

I love this story about the importance of having a friend who is willing to sit by our side while we feel things. A friend who will listen quietly and supportively while we voice our feelings and wait patiently for us to figure out what we would like to do about the things in our life that are hard and sad.

The Rabbit Listened is beautiful in its simplicity, story and illustrations. I'm always impressed when a picture book is able to simplify a complex and/or difficult topic. The subject tackled here is how to support someone whose world has come crashing down. This is an excellent book for ages 3 and up. It would be wonderful if we could all learn to listen like the rabbit does.

Here is a picture book that is just as instructive for adults as it is for children. A tender and encouraging read, "The Rabbit Listened" subtly describes the many stages of grief and how one can best help a friend who is hurting. The illustrations are gentle and make great use of white space. Keep your Kleenex handy for the ending!
