This book is subtitled, "Reflections, Prayers, and Meditations for a Meaningful Life." That seems to be a tall order for a spiritual writer. Maria Shriver is by no means a spiritual writer. What she is, however, is a woman with an impeccable pedigree - niece of President John F. Kennedy, a former first lady of California, and a journalist in her own right. She does not brag about this and comes out sounding sincere and honest when she talks about what she has learned in her life and what she wants to share with us. The result is a moving and powerful work. Each of the fifty chapters starts with an inspiring quote and ends with an earnest prayer. Her writing made me believe that I could live a better life.

Very enjoyable read. You can pick this book up anytime and read a short chapter and think about it for a long time. This is not one to hurry through so I kept it the whole 3 weeks, sorry to those who are waiting for it, I usually try to get books back as soon as I can when I know people book is on hold. Her reflections really are insightful and helpful to me as a middleaged woman, we all go through so much and feel like we are alone and wonder how others make it through. She shows us her way through and helps us feel her arms around us.

I have admired Maria Shriver for many, many years. She is the niece of President John F. Kennedy & was First Lady of California. As the mother of four children & a sister with four brothers --- she draws on all her life experiences to bring her readers many profound "words of wisdom". She has also been an advocate for Alzheimer's, after her Father was diagnosed with this heart-breaking disease. There are 50 short chapters, each on a different topic or story and they always end with a Prayer. A very up-lifting & spiritual read. I loved it !!

Life's experiences are like water running over stones in a river . . . the beauty and smoothness of river stones is all chalked up to the power of the water rushing over them over time. So too do life experiences shape us. We are like river stones, shaped, formed, and polished to what we become. Maria Shriver shares her experiences and life changes which have shaped, challenged, and evolved her thinking. Lots of good points and reflections.
