"The Swedish National Crime Unit receives a video of a young woman in her home, clearly unaware that she's being watched. Soon after the tape is recieved, the woman's body is found horrifically mutilated. With the arrival of the next, similar video, the police understand that the killer is toying with them, warning of a new victim, knowing there's nothing they can do. Detective Margot Silverman is put in charge of the investigation, and soon asks Detective Joona Linna for help. Linna, in turn, recruits Erik Maria Bark, the hypnotist and expert in trauma, with whom Linna's worked before. Bark is leery of forcing people to give up their secrets. But this time, Bark is the one hiding things. Years before, he had put a man away for an eerily similar crime, and now he's beginning to think that an innocent man may be behind bars--and a serial killer still on the loose.."-- Provided by publisher.

Reminder from the Fire Witness - I am a huge fan of Scandinavian mysteries / police procedurals, and know they tend to be dark, but this author / book exceeds even my limit on sadism and violence. I am going to cross this author off my list. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Very hard to put this book down. Something important happening on every page, multiple story lines that weave together before the final intersection. Joona is back--alive, but just barely--a the precise moment his country needs him most. But no one wants to trust him, and no one wants to believe him when he tells them what he thinks in happening. Very flawed set of characters (by which I mean very real and human) who all have their own demons or damage to overcome. This can be read as a stand-alone book but it would have more emotional impact if read in order.

The book keeps us hanging on till the very end, no questions about that. This being said, some passages drag on a bit too much, and some seem sometime superfluous. The author likes to describe situations so much, that we get impatient for it to go on. Good book, but he could have saved at least a hundred pages. and a few trees in the process. The result would have been more concise and more tight.

I've been a fan of this series and have been waiting a long time for this to be available.
While it was suspenseful at times, it also plodded at times. Very violent. On the whole I found the plot to be far fetched and not believable. The ending was disappointing and I wonder where they will take the character of Joona Linna next!

Another riveting and fast-paced thriller from this author. Couldn't put it down.
