This was AMAZING. I just loved it. Beautifuly written and totally compelling. It is unlike ANYTHING I have ever read before. It isn't the kind of book that sucks you in and spits you out at four in the morning wondering what you've done with your life. And it isn't the kind of book that's so dry and dull that you can't wait to put it down. It seemed like the latter at first but I couldn't stop reading it. It was pretty light, finished it in less then a day and for a middle schooler that's no small feat because I read it on a weekday. It is amazingly well written stupendously exhilirating and and the end you're like 'there has got to be a sequel!' Just READ THIS. You will thank me when you're done. Sasha is a poor thirteen-year-old jewish boy who wishes his family could have more in life after the sacrifices that they've made in traveling from Russia to America. When one day he sees someone doing magic he's taken out of school and carted off to the Inquisitors Agency to work with agent Wolf. Sasha is exited at this fresh start and with a way to supply his family with all the dollars they need. Wolf looks very bland but Sasha has the feeling that there's more to Wolf then there appears to be. Sasha isn't Wolf's only apprentice, though, Lily a rich girl is also elected to solve mysteries at Wolf's side, and Payton is always mocking Sasha. When a strange creature appears to be attacking Thomas Edison because Edison invented a device that is able to control people's souls, Sasha starts to wonder what's going on, especially since the creature keeps following him home at night. With so much mystery, suspense and thrill. Chris Moriarty has really cooked up a delicious story of which you will enjoy every last bite -and wish there were more. Although ---- really left strings untied and this book really deserves (NEEDS!) a sequel you will never regret diving into this mysterious world.
