As other comments have noted this is a lovely movie that respects the traditions of both cultures, and presents the two heroines as intelligent, loyal and independent minded. My only complaint is that the "outside world " isn't given much of a hearing; the only advocates for the Western lifestyle are a bigoted, arrogant school principal, and various sex crazed, alcohol abusing 20 year olds. Yet despite coming down firmly on the side of tradition, the film doesn't shrink from the less appealing aspects of an insular community life: both families are suspicious of the other religion, and the Jewish girl is saved from either ostracism or an unhappy marriage only due to the persistence and cleverness of her Muslim friend.
