Could somebody explain to me why this movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes? There's a shorter, better movie buried in here. It's still good, especially the cast, but it's attempt at the epic is misguided. But director William Wyler did do "Ben-Hur," so maybe he couldn't help himself. Gregory Peck is solid in the lead and the fine supporting cast features Charlton Heston (a rare non-leading role), Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker ("Baby Doll"), Chuck Connors, and Burl Ives, who won an Oscar for his role. Heston and Connors would act together again in "Soylent Green" and Peck and Wyler had worked together previously on "Roman Holiday." While it looks great on blu-ray, I'm sure it would look even better on the big screen.
