Entertaining BBC miniseries based on Elizabeth's Gaskell's novel. The cast is excellent with some of England's grand actresses of note - Judi Dench, Imelda Stauton, Francesca Annis. The story is set in 1842 and industrialization is sneaking up on little towns like Cranford. A young doctor settles in Cranford and all the ladies get a bit hysterical. By the end of episode 2, the young doctor is unknowingly engaged / committed to 4 women and of course, the drama unravels. Great acting, beautiful setting, serious at times (the grand dame who owns the local estate) and conscientious (the estate manager who wants a school built in the town) and of course, a bit silly - like the cow that got sick and someone made it - looked like pajamas! But I'm sure the cow probably thought it was engaged to the young, handsome doctor too. Entertaining, the first disc has 5 episodes, you'll probably have to watch them one after another - I did!
