People are so quick to condemn something that is unique and complex. I think this is a magical film that captures the spirit of the book and Sendak himself. If you want to learn more please watch the documentary "Tell Them Anything You Want, A Portrait of Maurice Sendak". Yes, the film deals with the wide range of human emotions: happiness, sadness, joy, loneliness etc. Kids experience these emotions too and that was Sendak's point. Childhood is often a scary place. The book was widely criticized when it was first printed but it quickly became a classic because it spoke to kids. I recommend this to anyone over 6 years of age.
