I confess that I checked out this book in order to read about the legendary pianist, Glenn Gould (the pages are in the index). But then I back-tracked to read the simultaneous narratives on J.S. Bach and several interesting musicians whose lives were influenced by Bach's music ~ Albert Schweitzer, Leopold Stokowski and Pablo Casals. The most interesting part (pg. 218 - 226), which I've re-read several times, details and analyzes Gould's 1955 recording of the Goldberg Variations, which launched his international career.
