This story focuses on Emaline, teenager who is trying to make her last “high school summer” count. She has so much to do with working at her family’s beach house rental company and her long time perfect boyfriend Luke, she can already feel the time flying by, and she doesn't really wants things to change. However, things start to spiral out of control when her father announces in his own quiet way that’s he’s coming to see her this summer. She also meets Theo, a New Yorker interested in film who happens to stay at Colby for the summer. Theo is different and reminds Emaline that there is life outside of Colby. I really love Sarah Dessen’s books, I've read all of them and when I heard a new one was coming out I was really excited. So why was this book a bit of a let down for me? Maybe it’s because I've already read some of Sarah Dessen’s best work so I’m a bit more picky now, or maybe it’s because I just didn’t really like Emaline. I mean, she was relatable and I guess by the end I liked her but it was just some of her decisions were just kind of selfish and futile. Compared to her best friends, she seemed a bit boring. The romance in this book wasn't as adorable as some of Sarah Dessen’s others, but it was pretty cute. Overall, if your into chic lits and looking for a fast summer read, you should try this book it’s not just about choosing the right guy, its coming to terms with the fact that the future is scary, but we have to move forward and make sure we aren't always looking at the past.
