Once again Stephen King writes a book that perfectly evokes a time gone by--in this case, 1973--with a twenty-one-year-old protagonist that reminded me of the wonderful hero from King's novel 11-22-63. Both of the heroes are sensitive and kind, yet very brave, and love women in a way that makes you want to step into the pages of the books and be with these men. Joyland is an amusement park dedicated to giving people fun. Even though it's a "third-tier" park, they do their best to give folks a wonderful time, which I loved. The plot is driven by the unsolved murder of a young woman who was murdered in a house of horror ride four years earlier. At its core, Joyland eloquently depicts many types of love--parental love, passion, unrequited love, and enduring friendship.
