The author and her family embark on a year of no sugar in rural Vermont in 2011. As she, her husband, and two school-age daughters adjust to the new routine, the author finds herself spending more and more time cooking each day. Schaub also explores alternatives to sugar with decidedly mixed results. Excerpts from her oldest daughter's diary and sidebar essays from her husband add a different perspective to the experiment. An interesting story for those considering changing their eating habits!
