An enjoyable read dealing with a young girl struggling with her biracial identity, a topic not often found in children's literature. I felt it was a little didactic and, frankly, I'm a bit tired of word-collecting girls. It felt forced and choppy, as did the trivia about African-American history. I'm also concerned the author did not get all her facts correct. I listened to this so maybe it was me, but I believe there is a reference to 78 rpm records holding as many songs as a CD. I'm pretty sure, if I heard that correctly, she meant a 33 rpm. 78s typically had one song per side, whereas a long-playing 33 would have been able to hold an entire CD's worth of songs. Maybe I misheard...but maybe I didn't. If I heard correctly, are there other details the author didn't get right? I don't know... That said, it's still worth a read for those wanting something dealing with being biracial.
