Fabulous show which concentrates on the job the contestants have to do and not on their sentimental backstories as in some reality shows. It's especially interesting if you're a baker, but I'm guessing from its phenomenal success in the UK that it attracts non-bakers as well. I'm kind of sad that in America they don't air the first four seasons. Maybe the show was a bit more polished further down the line, but it's still our loss. I love to bake and try to view as much of the earlier seasons as possible via youtube.
Probably a better introduction to actual British life than much of its drama which tends to focus on either the aristocracy (an infinitesimal slice of the population) or the criminal classes. Real people are here, young and old. Unlike most dramas, women are properly represented in terms of numbers - what a change! No falsified aggro between people and no psychopaths you love to hate. Just decent folk who like to spend time creating lovely things to eat. And lastly --- you also learn a heck of a lot about baking.
