I really loved the Downton Abbey series, but I found this feature film to be disappointing overall. The plot was so very thin and very contrived and kind of dull! It was a treat to see the beloved and familiar Downton characters again. Everything and everyone looked beautiful. But the forced conflict between the palace staff and the Downton Abbey staff? Such an awful storyline! Ugh! Such unprofessional and childish behaviour on the part of everyone involved. It was painful to watch and it seemed 100% unrealistic that high level service staff would act like such unprofessional babies. I thought it was appalling that Anna of all people would be involved in the scheme to drug the royal chef to get him out the way. I found this entire plotline deplorable and I thought the behaviour of the Downton Staff wasn't endearing and delightful but was really unethical and reckless. And devoting screentime to a ridiculously mundane subplot about Lady Edith's dress? Really? It seemed so trite and mundane. And the Princess Mary storyline was also awful and seemed so contrived. A royal princess would be confiding in Tom like that? Ugh. So while it was fun to revisit Downton and see all the characters again, I actually found the movie a real letdown.
