From the Desk of Zoe Washington was a book that I saw come through on our new books shelf. I picked it up to read the back cover and then couldn’t put it down. I was immediately sucked into the description and as soon as I cracked the spine, the story itself. Zoe receives a letter on her 12th birthday from her biological father, a man whom she has never met, who has been in jail for murder her whole life. She learns that he has been writing to her her whole life, but her mother has been keeping the letters. She writes back, and a pen pal relationship is formed. The more Zoe gets to know her dad, the more she wonders how he could have done what he is in jail for doing. She asks her father about it and he says that he was wrongfully imprisoned. Spunky Zoe sets out to find the truth and eventually turns to Project Innocence to help her. This book is full of heart, but it also shows the real truth of things wrong with the justice system, as well as deception between family members. It isn’t afraid to tackle the hard stuff to get to the good stuff. It was a 5 star read for me. Reviewed by Miss Jackie
