Turtle Boy by M. Evan Wolkenstein (2020) is a YA work of realistic fiction for anyone 10 and up. Will is a seventh grader and he is having a rough year. His father died when he was a preschooler. He is being raised by his mom. He has trouble making friends and he loves turtles. Will is being helped to prepare for his Bar Mitzvah by Rabbi Harris and is assigned community service to visit. 26 year old bot in the hospital. Will becomes friends with this boy. This novel is a journey of a seventh grader. The story is tight and moves.
